Kieran McGuckin - Evolution Swim School Founder

Swimming has always been a big part of family life and it was very important for my parents that from a young age I was safe in the water. At 4 years old I got my arm bands taken away and was dropped in the deep end of the villa pool on holiday in Florida, since then I haven’t stopped swimming. 

At the age of 8 years old I joined my first swimming club, Falkirk Otters, and began the path to becoming a competitive athlete. Swimming first and foremost has always been fun for me and the reason I still love the sport to this day. 

In 2010, moving to Edinburgh to study Mechanical Engineering and progress my swimming career, proved pivotal in the birth of Evolution Swim School. As a student I picked up learn to swim classes as a part time job and here my love for teaching was born.  

In 2014 I made my first Commonwealth Games Team and was fortunate enough to represent Scotland at a Home Games. 4 years later I was on the Team again but this time in Gold Coast, Australia. Although Glasgow 2014 holds a special place in my heart 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games I was able to be part of a historical Relay Team that won Scotland’s first ever medal in the 4x100m Freestyle relay over the history of the competition. 

Swimming has helped shape the person I am to this day and I want to bring that passion to the swimming lesson world! Since the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we live I want to try and make high quality swimming lessons available as there is a clear shortage in the sector!
