Building confidence is key to successful swimming lessons. You can use the teachers' hands for assistance but are able to submerge at the end of the jump.
The first basic aquatic breathing and sets up good foundations for breathing while swimming later in the programme. You can now submerge up to at least your nose and blow bubbles for a short duration before coming up for a quick inhale and repeating 3 times.
Full submersion is when you are completely under water and do not hold your nose. This builds the confidence needed to swim independently with both arms and face submerged.

Kicking is the foundation of all propulsion when swimming and you can now use the correct kicking action; avoiding too much bending at the knee and minimising the whole leg coming out of the water. This can be completed with ears in the water on your back and eyes in the water on your front and without any assistance from the teacher (a float can be used).

You can now jump away from the wall in a star and pencil shape with out any assistance and able to make your way back to the edge of the pool in a controlled and safe manner.
You are now able to collect a sunken object from water you can stand in. This has been done with your hands and while fully submerged.
You are now able to perform a star and pencil float unaided. Completed on the surface of the water with arms and legs extended in a star shape, or with arms and legs together and eyes submerged

You are now able to curl up into a small ball, knees and chin tucked into your chest and float on the surface of the water.
You are now able to make your way from a horizontal floating position (front and back) to a vertical standing without any assistance.
You are now able to kick for 5m without assistance from the teacher or using a float. Your kicking action is in a flat body position in the water and maintaining a consistent leg action. Avoiding kicking from the knees.
You are now able to demonstrate the continuous arm action for 5m. This can be done with the assistance of the teacher or with a float. You are able to demonstrate the following; thumb out the water first and pinkie entering first; straight arms over the top of the water; and pulling the full length of your arms.
You are now able to swim 5m backcrawl without the assistance of the teacher and demonstrating all of the expected outcomes of both the kicking and arm action sections for backcrawl.

You are now able to kick for 5m without assistance from the teacher but may use a float. You can do this with a flat body position and eyes in the water and maintaining a consistent leg action. Avoiding kicking from the knees.
You are now able to demonstrate the continuous arm action for 5m. This can be done with the assistance of the teacher or with a float. You are now able to demonstrate the following; hand entering between the water outstretched in front of the body between the head and shoulder; hand exiting close to the body past the hips.
You are now able to swim 5m frontcrawl without the assistance of the teacher and demonstrating all of the expected outcomes of both the kicking and arm action sections for frontcrawl.

You are now able to collect a sunken object in water you cannot stand in and completely unassisted. The object must be collected with hands.
You are now able to dive into the water from a sitting position. You can push off the wall with two feet simultaneously; arms out stretched in a streamline position along the surface of the water.
You are now able to preform the two actions of the breaststroke arm action; sweeping out/round then driving forward.
You are now able to kick [can be completed with a float] with a simultaneous action. It is excepted that they will have a component of symmetry to avoid developing a screw kick; propel themselves only using breaststroke kicking action [no flutter kick].
You are now able to swim 15m breaststroke without the assistance of the teacher and demonstrating all of the expected outcomes of both the kicking and arm action sections for breaststroke.
You are now able to demonstrate; consistent and continuous arm action that includes the prerequisites from Learn Bronze; show the start of a body roll for further development later in the programme.
You are now able to kick for 15m without the use of any floats demonstrating all the prerequisites from Learn Bronze.
You are now able to swim 15m backcrawl without the assistance of the teacher and demonstrating all of the expected outcomes of both the kicking and arm action sections for backcrawl.
You are now able to demonstrate; consistent and continuous arm action that includes the prerequisites from Learn Bronze; show breathing to the side at the correct time within the stroke and keeping the opposite ear in the water.

You are now able be able to kick for 15m [a float can be used] demonstrating all the prerequisites from Learn Bronze.
You are now able be able to swim 15m frontcrawl without the assistance of the teacher and demonstrating all of the expected outcomes of both the kicking and arm action sections for frontcrawl.
You are now able be able to hold the streamline position for the full 5m off the wall after pushing off on your front & back. It is expected that they hold a flat position either on top of or under the water.

You are now able to dive into the water from a kneeling position. You can now push off the wall arms out stretched in a streamline position; hands entering the water first and feet following behind together.
You are now able to more than one object in one breath from the deep end of the pool.
You are now able to swim 25m breaststroke continuously for 25m without interruption using the correct breathing technique.
You are now able to swim 25m backcrawl continuously without interruption. You will be able to demonstrate body roll, with continuous arm/leg actions for the full 25m. You are able to breath without lifting your heads out of the water keeping the opposite ear submerged.
You are now able to demonstrate the basic dolphin kick on both your front and back.
You are now able to swim 15m showing the basic butterfly arm action. You can bring both arms out and over the water at the same time.
You are now able to keep your chin above the surface of the water for 30 seconds while not touching the bottom of the pool. This can be done with either flutter kick or eggbeater kick and sculling with your hands
You are now able to hold the streamline position for the full 10m off the wall after pushing off on your front & back. It is expected that you hold a flat position either on top of or under the water.
